New Experiences

Hello everyone and welcome to my newest post. I was looking through my pictures and found an outfit I was really excited about. Lately I’ve been trying to be more perceptive about my surroundings, trying to find a diamond in the rough.

I was hanging out with my friend and I really wanted a crepe, so we went to an antique store that has a gelato shop in the front part. Sadly, there were no crepes, but there was an opportunity to try some gelato for the first time. The gelato was really good, and was much thinner than ice cream so I had to eat it quickly, which is difficult for someone who eats as slowly as me.

We walked through the store, and was drawn to the highly decorated walls, full of art from all places of the world. I was mentally figuring out where I wanted to take pictures holding my ice cream, and went to sit where the art was being hung, making sure I got a good picture with both my dress and the art hanging behind me.

My town of Salem, Oregon has a couple of antique stores, and this was one I had never been to before. There was so many different things to look at, from desks and books to their own collection of gift cards. Being a history major, I was like a kid in a candy store. I found items dating back to the 60’s, that were conserved so well over time. As time goes on I’ve noticed how historic my city is, being the capital of Oregon has led to antique stores, travel areas and more modern cafes and restaurants, which make great backgrounds for outfit pictures. Coffee Shop Daze

Hello! Welcome to another blog post. I honestly never know how to start these, introductions are always the hardest parts in anything I do.

This post is one I am very excited about, given the location. As time goes on and I think about where I want my blog to be, I realize that the quality of my content has to develop and grow. Taking pictures of my outfits in my backyard is something I want to stray away from. I am taking advantage of the beautiful scenery in my city, finding all the treasures that allow me to show of both my city and the outfits I love so much.

These pictures were taken by one of my oldest friends, Vivian. Whenever we hangout she asks if I want to take outfit pictures, and would I really be a blogger if I declined? We hadn’t talked in a while since school kept us so busy, so we had a great excuse to hangout and see what we’ve been up to over the last couple of months.

We went to a coffee shop in the downtown part of our city, one I had only been twice before. I loved the aesthetic of the place. It is full of bookshelves, plants and wooden furniture. They use old books when giving receipts, and their bar is rather impressive. The bottles reach the ceiling in an intricate way of assortment that lines the middle of the building.

Neither of us are really fans of coffee, so we tried tome sweet iced teas. The moment we got our drinks, we took our phones out of our pockets and started to take pictures. I used the flash, she grabbed a book from behind me and we started to create as many different combinations of flat lays.

She took my picture while we waited for our tacos, and at first I felt awkward taking pictures in a place full of people, but I liked my outfit and wanted to share it with you all. When people walked in and out they would make eye contact and I would feel somewhat conceited, but I carried on.

I felt good, and I wanted to embrace that feeling. I kept moving to every different chair around us, trying to get the best angles and great lighting. Every picture was so different, it captured both my outfit as well as the attempt at doing my makeup. I always stick to highlighter, mascara and lipstick. I love using highlighter because I like the glow it gives my face in pictures, especially with natural lighting.

Let me know what you think of this outfit and if you like the location. Have a great day x

Always striving

Hi everyone! Happy April! I can’t believe it is already April! It’s gonna be an amazing month, since today is the first day of my new term!

It has been quite interesting this year, I’ve tried time and time again to reach my goals and I am reminded that rewards do not come easy, so I have to truly realize how much I want something and go after it.

This college degree has been kicking my butt since 2015, but I will not give up. All the nights filled with emotions will lead me to a better future, even if it takes longer than 4 years. I know some may think I am wasting my time, but it will be worth it when I am doing what I love for the rest of my life. As I move forward in my education, I’ve been faced with reevaluating what exactly that is.

Do I love history or fashion more? The safe option is history, where I can work in museums to help design them and appropriately try and represent different cultures from around the world. I already know so much history, it’s engraved in my mind from high school. It gives me such an amazing feeling to know I am learning about those before me and what their lives were like.

Fashion is my one true love. Since I discovered weworewhat I loved the idea of working in fashion, especially if that meant I could share my personal style and make a living that way. Fast forward 5 years after making this blog, and I am no where close to that goal, but here I am, still thinking about the day I can finally write a sponsored post. I understand that might never happen, so I focus on something that is a sure thing, such as a history degree.

Well , thank you for reading my thoughts. Let me know any suggestions you may have on my career goals.

Fashion is about self expression. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved clothes. How different people can wear a single piece of clothing and make it so unique. I have always dressed comfortably, sometimes too much so. I’ve worn sweatpants and hoodies to class on multiple occasions, never seeing the point of dressing up. I felt beautiful then, and I feel beautiful now.

Fashion is never ending, and I am so happy to see the way people go about their style. Some are very daring and creative, while others opt for simple outfits that are still so amazing. Whatever your style is, thank you for inspiring me. You all are so creative and give me so many ideas when it comes to style.

A trend I have been noticing a lot recently is thin sunglasses. I wasn’t a big fan of them at first, but as I saw celebrities wearing them in different ways, I started to see the appeal of them. I went to an antique shop with a friend and saw so many of these sunglasses, which I found so amazing. These were from years ago, and here we are n 2018 wearing them once again. Fashion truly does surpass time.

I got tagged for this post by the lovely Louise on twitter! Thanks so much love. I will be answering the following questions.

What’s your morning beauty routine?
My morning routine is the basics. I floss and brush my teeth, and wash my face using a charcoal face wash from yes uk that I really like so far.
What’s for breakfast?
If I wake up early enough, I eat a bowl of cereal or make myself a sandwich.
Coffee or tea?
Neither, I drink apple juice a lot.
How long does it take you to get out the door?
Way longer than it should. It depends on what time my class is. If its early, I will most likely lay in bed until I know that I can and won’t be late to my class.
What’s your go-to makeup look on a fuss-free morning?
When I do my makeup I tend to do everything: lipstick, eyebrows, eyeshadow. Its either light makeup or just my face wash.
What’s your evening beauty routine?
The same as my morning one. Nothing to complex.
Snack time! What’s in the bowl?
Candy. Anything chocolate. Or maybe some cupcakes!
How do you wind down and prep for bed?
I decide that I’m done doing homework for the night and put everything in my backpack than lay in bed for a bit.
Cosy up! What are you wearing to sleep?
Sweats and a t-shirt, or shorts. Whichever I find first is what I wear.
What are some things you have to do before hitting the hay?
Making sure all my notebooks and textbooks are put away, my dishes are washed and I did all the homework I need for the following day.

As some of you may know (since I tweeted about it) last night I attended a basketball game. It was the Portland trailblazers against the Dallas Mavericks. We lost, but the game was great.

Below are pictures of the makeup I used, a palette I bought on Black Friday, foundation from wet &a wild, mascara from revlon, blush from cover girl. These are the only makeup products I use.

The weather was full of rain so I wore a trench coat, skinny jeans, black booties, a scarf and I took my bcbg purse.

When we got to the moda center, we were the lead to the club level and entered the rose room, where there was a silent auction taking place for the Portland museum of art and black parent initiative. I loved seeing so many people of color in such a successful event. Sadly I didn’t get any pictures since the room was rather dark, but I hope that I will have another opportunity to attend a similar event.

Got the tumblr app on my phone and my feed is full of outfits, accessories and beautiful places. Every lovely Instagram I follow seems to pop up, with amazing pictures and trends. They always inspire me, and I’d like to share some of the pictures I liked.
